WMB Voorronde Friesland – Death Moth

Death Moth bestaat nog niet zo lang, maar wist het wel in de voorrondes van de Metal Battle terecht te komen. Ondanks dat ze nog niet lang bestaan hebben ze wel al twee singles op hun naam staan. De promo die de band opnam voor de Metal Battle viel bij ons in goede aarde. En wie weet bij meer, want ze wonnen de laatste voorronde van de Wacken Metal Battle Nederland en gaan dus door naar de halve finale. We stelde de band wat vragen om ze iets beter te leren kennen. 

Gefeliciteerd met jullie winst! Hoe voelt dat?  

Ja fantastisch! We hoopte natuurlijk op de winst maar dat we uiteindelijk tot winnaar bekend werden gemaakt waren natuurlijk ontzettend blij. We bestaan nog niet zo lang (pas 1,5 jaar) en dit was onze 3e live show. Dus dat we hebben gewonnen is natuurlijk te gek!

Voor degene die jullie nog niet kennen: wie zijn jullie en wat doen jullie? 

Wij zijn Death Möth, een death metal band met leden uit West-Friesland en Friesland. Opgericht door gitariste Ingeborg medio September 2022 en we oefenen wekelijks in Schaard (Friesland). De band bestaat uit 2 dames en 2 heren en we halen onze inspiratie uit Bolt Thrower, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary en Death. De oldschool legendes!

Jullie hadden een vette promo opgenomen ter aankondiging van deze show. Heeft het geholpen jullie fanbase naar Iduna te krijgen? 

Oeh, lastig te zeggen! Wij hadden relatief weinig fans mee wat ik niet zo gek vind, aangezien bijna niemand ons nog kent. Maar we hebben wel leuke feedback op de video gekregen en hij is al lekker vaak bekeken. Ik hoop dat het wel wat geholpen heeft natuurlijk.

Was Iduna een van jullie grotere optredens of zijn jullie gewend om al op grotere podia te staan? (En hoe was het om daar te spelen?)

Iduna was te gek maar pas onze 3e live show en niet de grootste. Onze 1e show was meteen in de grote zaal van de Neushoorn tijdens Frisian Metal Night, de zaal was echt prop en prop vol en daar kunnen 500 man in geloof ik. Dat was meteen even een goede binnenkomer en we vonden het allemaal echt te gek om voor zoveel mensen te spelen. 

Op 17 maart gaan jullie een bijzonder optreden doen in Zaandam. Wat is leuker? De voorronde van de Metal Battle of dit optreden? 

Dat is moeilijk kiezen haha. Metal Battle was echt te gek maar ook beetje spannend omdat je mee doet aan een wedstrijd. We hebben ook ontzettend veel zin in Silent Metal Mayhem, dat Dennis mij (Ingeborg) mailde zei ik na overleg met de band meteen ja. Het is zo uniek en we voelen ons vereerd om samen met Man As Plague als eerste bands hier aan mee te doen!

Stel dat jullie niet gewonnen hadden, wie had er volgens jullie dan moeten winnen? 

Dan Oltas, of Kletus. Super muzikanten en echte ‘geolide machines’ in hun routine.

Wat kunnen we van jullie verwachten tijdens de halve finale?

Een verassing als intro en een muur aan muziek! En uiteraard graag een paar hele dikke vette moshpits!

Death Moth hasn’t been around for long, but still managed to make it to the preliminaries of the Metal Battle. Despite their short existence, they already have two singles under their belt. The promo they recorded for the Metal Battle caught our attention. And who knows, maybe it caught the attention of more, because they won the last preliminary round of the Wacken Metal Battle Netherlands and are moving on to the semifinals. We asked the band some questions to get to know them a bit better.

Congratulations on your win! How does it feel?

Absolutely fantastic! Of course, we hoped to win, but to ultimately be announced as the winner made us incredibly happy. We haven’t been around for long (only 1.5 years), and this was our 3rd live show. So winning is just amazing!

For those who don’t know you: who are you and what do you do?

We are Death Möth, a death metal band with members from West-Friesland and Friesland. Founded by guitarist Ingeborg in mid-September 2022, and we rehearse weekly in Schaard (Friesland). The band consists of 2 ladies and 2 gentlemen, and we draw our inspiration from Bolt Thrower, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, and Death. The old school legends!

You recorded a cool promo to announce this show. Did it help bring your fanbase to Iduna?

Hmm, hard to say! We had relatively few fans with us, which isn’t surprising since almost nobody knows us yet. But we did receive nice feedback on the video, and it has been viewed quite a bit. I hope it helped a bit, of course.

Was Iduna one of your bigger gigs or are you used to playing on larger stages? (And how was it to play there?)

Iduna was awesome but only our 3rd live show and not the biggest. Our 1st show was right away in the main hall of Neushoorn during Frisian Metal Night, the hall was really packed, and I think it can hold 500 people. That was a great debut, and we all really enjoyed playing for so many people.

You’re doing a special performance in Zaandam on March 17th. What’s better? The Metal Battle preliminary or this performance?

That’s a tough choice haha. Metal Battle was really great but also a bit nerve-wracking because you’re in a competition. We’re also really looking forward to Silent Metal Mayhem, when Dennis emailed me (Ingeborg), I immediately said yes after discussing it with the band. It’s so unique, and we feel honored to be the first bands to participate along with Man As Plague!

If you hadn’t won, who do you think should have won?

Then Oltas, or Kletus. Super musicians and real “well-oiled machines” in their routine.

What can we expect from you during the semifinals?

A surprise as an intro and a wall of music! And of course, we’d love to see some really epic mosh pits!
